Multi-Dimensional Bisection Method in HIL Environment: Stability and Chatter Prediction in Turning

In turning operations, the harmful small-amplitude but high-frequency chatter vibrations are identified in hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) experimental environment by means of application a multi-dimensional bisection method. The dummy workpiece clamped to real main spindle is excited contactless electromagnetic actuators and response detected laser-based sensors. According present stored previous positions rotating workpiece, desired cutting force characteristic along with surface regeneration effect can be emulated high-performance target computer. While conventional results HIL identify stability limits operation accurately only high-resolution grid technological parameters, embedded method reduces significantly both size required time duration measurement path following boundaries linear loss stability. Based on this technique, boundary process presented wide range speeds.
